Allahabad Museum

On 18 th May, 2015 the International Museum Day was celebrated enthusiastically by Allahabad Museum in its Auditorium. The theme of the International Museum Day of the current year is Museums for sustainable Society as decided by ICOM (International council for Museums) and with an impressive attendance of school children and their parents on the Museum Campus. The function was inaugurated by Dr. Radheyshyam Agrawal, noted painter and Dr. Sangeeta, faculty of Education Dept. Of CMP Degree College as special guest by lighting up the traditional lamp. Children painted paintings on this occasion that aimed at sensitizing them towards constructive development of society through sustainable means and identify the significance contributions of museums in this relevance. This activity aimed at preparing the new generation of youth oriented towards sustainable development of nation.

Activities

Allahabad Museum every year organizes Lecture series in the memory of renowned art critic Dr. AK Coomaraswamy. This year Dr. AK Coomaraswamy Memorial Lecture was delivered by Padmashree Dr. Geeta Chandran, a world renowned Bharatnatyam Dancer today in the evening at the open air Theater of Allahabad Museum. Her performance was based on the “Dance of Shiva” a book written by Dr. Coomaraswamy itself. The significance of this event becomes more relevant in current scenario as Dr. Coomaraswamy was the first critic and personality to present the Indian Art and Culture infront of the world. He explored, explained and communicated the philosophical and aesthetic sense of Indian Art to the world thus bringing the global attention towards Indian Art and this lecture series proves to be catalyst in igniting the eager and sense of responsibilities among individuals to come forward for the preservation, promotion and popularization of Indian Art in different arena.
The program was presided by Shri. Rajan Shukla, Commissioner, Allahabad Region and member, Allahabad Museum Society along with Shri. Rajesh Purohit, Director – Allahabad Museum and Prof. MM Das, Former HoD, University of Allahabad and Guest of Honor of the evening, were on dice in the presence of guests and officials of Allahabad Museum. The lecture of Dr. Chandran was focused on the various dance styles of Lord Shiva as described in the book written by Dr. AK Coomaraswamy and she has done justice with it by her gracious performance. It was felt as if she had added the life in the book. During lecture her disciple Ms. Amrita Sruthi was also present.
In his address Shri. Purohit welcomes all the guests present and recalled the history of this memorial lecture series and told that in past this stage is also graced by Padma Vibhushan Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasiya, Padmabhushan Javed Akhtar, Dr. Devangna Desai and Padma Vibhushan Dr. Sonal Man Singh and Dr. Chandran had continued the legacy.

The Allahabad Museum organized Art Appreciation Course – 2015 for participants with degree of graduation and aesthetic sense as minimum qualification requirements, with an objective to sensitize youth to understand different aspects and forms of art from early history to contemporary era, with development of needed skills under guidance of renowned artists and experts from the concerned fields with the likes of Padma Shri. Dr. Geeta Chandran, Prof. NR Farooqui – Vice Chancellor, University of Allahabad, etc. In total 102 participants qualified to be a part of this one month long Art Appreciation Course – 2015 beginning from 17 th June, 2015. During this program participants were taken for technical visit to different archeological sites of Kaushambi.

Documentary Film Making Course – 2015

For the budding and aspirants of documentary film making, Allahabad Museum organizes a one month long duration Documentary Film Making Course – 2015 from 01 st July – 30 th July, 2015 in which 80 participants participated and worked in six groups to produce documentary films on Beti Bachao - Beti Padhao, Because I am a Girl, Clean India, Yuva, Hepetitis – B and Ganga at the end of this course. During this course participants got an opportunity to interact with and learn from personalities like Shri. Ajamil (notable journalist), Shri. Mustaq Amir (Bureau Chief, ETV), etc. professionals from the concerned field. The last day of the event proved to be the day of judgment to select the best documentary film prepared in the duration of this course after screening. During this course participants learned the principles & basics of using camera, art of making documentary along with added exposure of shooting interviews with different individuals and personalities. This event aimed at grooming young talents and to motivate them by providing much needed platform to sensitize them.

WORKSHOP FOR CHILDREN

A month long summer workshop for children on clay modelling, painting and computer learning was arranged by the Allahabad Museum. Hundred Children of various age group participated.

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

The theme of this years 'World Environment Day' was Green Economy:Does it include you? Director Allahabad Museum made a powerpoint presentation on the Green House Effect and the concept of green economy & green job in the light of sustainable development in India.

Bal Saptah – 2015

In continuation to meet our objective to inspire, groom and provide platform to budding artists; especially children, we have organized a one week program Bal Saptah from 14 – 21 Nov, 2015 that featured different competitions namely; Poem Recitation, Shrimad Bhagwat Shloka Recitation, Art Painting, Quiz: Exploring India, Elocution: New Dreams of India, Poster Making: Beti Bachao, Beti Badhao, Musical Chair, Clay Modeling, Science Model, Folk Dance and Classical Dance under various categories that witnessed more thousands of child participants from Allahabad District and its nearby regions.
